We Are Proud to Be a D/deaf-Friendly Establishment: Here's What It Means...

At Anchoreach CIC, we believe in creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for everyone. We are committed to ensuring that our services are accessible to all members of our community, including those who are D/deaf or hard of hearing. We are proud to be recognized as a D/deaf-friendly establishment, and we want to share with you what that means for our community and how we strive to make everyone feel at home.

Understanding D/deaf-Friendly

Being D/deaf-friendly isn't just a label; it's a commitment to inclusivity and respect. The term "D/deaf" encompasses both those who identify as "Deaf" (with a capital "D"), who often see themselves as part of a distinct cultural group, and those who are "deaf" (with a lowercase "d"), who may not identify with Deaf culture but have significant hearing loss.

For us, being D/deaf-friendly means understanding and addressing the unique needs of individuals across this spectrum. It involves more than just offering basic accommodations—it's about fostering a space where everyone can fully participate and engage with our services.

How We Make Our Services Accessible

  1. Sign Language Accessibility: We have staff members who are trained in British Sign Language (BSL). Whether you need assistance with communication or just want to chat, our BSL-trained team members are here to help. Our interpreter is always here to assist in all sessions with those who need it.

  2. Visual and Written Communication: We provide important information in visual formats, including written materials and clear signage throughout our establishment. This ensures that everyone has access to the information they need without relying solely on verbal communication.

  3. Assistive Technology: We have installed hearing loops in key areas of our facility, making it easier for those who use hearing aids to interact and communicate effectively. Additionally, we offer other assistive devices upon request to make your experience as smooth as possible.

  4. Quiet Spaces: We recognize that loud environments can be challenging for some members of the D/deaf community. That’s why we offer quiet spaces where you can relax, work, or meet with others in a more comfortable setting.

  5. Training and Awareness: We run weekly British Sign Language sessions to enable you to learn a new skill and communicate with those who are Deaf or hard of hearing.

Why This Matters

Inclusivity is at the heart of what we do. By being a D/deaf-friendly establishment, we aim to break down barriers and create a space where everyone feels valued and understood. We believe that by making these changes, we are not only improving our services but also contributing to a more inclusive community.

We know that accessibility is an ongoing journey, and we are always open to feedback on how we can improve. If you have any suggestions or need specific accommodations during your visit, please do not hesitate to let us know.

Join Us in Our Mission

We invite everyone—whether you are D/deaf, hard of hearing, or hearing—to join us in creating an inclusive environment where everyone can thrive. We are committed to continuous learning and improvement, and we appreciate the opportunity to serve such a diverse and vibrant community.
